Welcome to The Intelligent Design Net
On this website, you will not find a debate on the merits of evolution versus intelligent design. The creationist challenge to evolution has been likened to "death by a thousand paper cuts," meaning that an endless number of bogus arguments have been raised, each of which is individually harmless and easily refutable. However, creationists demand that each argument be addressed at every public debate, with the result that nothing is ever resolved in the realm of public opinion. Moreover, there are already a number of exhaustive web-based resources dealing with creationist claims, which do a thorough job in addressing the variety of challenges to evolution-- for anyone who takes the time to read them. Unfortunately, most people have no interest in studying the details of the issue. Instead, they make up their minds based upon a general perception, which comes from third and fourth-hand accounts of summaries of lists of books, and other forms of information filtered through to the public at large. It is in this shadowy realm-- where urban legend and tabloid news accounts flourish--that creationists have had the most influence on public opinion. Today, many people with no particular beliefs concerning Biblical literalism are under the impression that evolutionary theory is in trouble, and that "new" scientific developments have been steadily strengthening the claims of intelligent design. These people are not directly exposed to claims by fundamentalist Christians in any religious setting, but get them through deceivingly secular channels and assume them to be true. This website is for them. Here, the rhetoric of creationists is laid bare, their methods are exposed, their experts are scrutinized and their claims of support are examined in detail. In a short time, one can see that the oft-cited "mountain of evidence" against evolution is actually just a collection of old, debunked rhetorical arguments that are endlessly rehashed at every new creationist challenge; that the alleged army of scientists who reject evolution is just a tiny group of fundamentalist Christians who quote each other back and forth; and most importantly, that the methods of intelligent design proponents are unquestionably dishonest. Instead of falling into the trap of creationist debate tactics (i.e., conceding that their first fifty challenges to evolution were unsupportable, but demanding that the other six hundred be addressed to their satisfaction), it is time to ask, "If intelligent design is such a powerful theory, then why are any lies necessary? Why are any bogus arguments needed?"
